Phalaborwa
Located in the northeastern part of South Africa, in the province of Limpopo, you will find Phalaborwa (also known as Ba-Palaborwa). It is part of the Mopane district and is one of the access roads to the world famous Kruger Park. In addition, it is also the ideal place for transit to the border parks of Mozambique, which are a 2-hour drive away.
About 2000 years ago a volcanic eruption took place, exposing all kinds of minerals and metals from the earth such as copper, gold, iron and zirconium. As a result, numerous clay kilns can be found in this area where the extracted metals were melted down. Until today it is still a flourishing mining town and the mine has now become a unique tourist attraction.
Phalaborwa is a place surrounded by game reserves and lodges. Where the Ga-Selati and Olifants rivers come together, game reserves and wildlife are never more than half an hour away. It is a beautiful place for unforgettable memories, in short an ideal place to discover the beautiful ‘Lowveld’
Day trips you can make from here are to the Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels, God’s window and the Bourke’s Luck potholes. Several Tzaneen fruit farms and the Hoedspruit game farms are also worth a visit.
Sefapane Lodge is an excellent accommodation in Phalaborwa.
