Port Alfred is a place with the charm and charisma of an English fishing village. It is located in the Eastern Cape where the Kowie River meets the Indian Ocean, between Port Elizabeth and East London. This coastal region is also called the ‘Sunshine Coast’.
Port Alfred is best known for its beautiful marina, living by the water along the canals and shopping in the Alfred Waterfront shops. It is therefore the vast beaches and water sports that bring visitors to Port Alfred. Looking for shells is also a wonderful activity here, because there are around 1800 different shells found on these beautiful beaches.
In addition to deep sea fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, kite surfing and surfing, a beautiful world can also be admired underwater. You can go diving here along the 25 kilometer long coral reefs. On the beaches it is good for sun worshipers, but also for riders who can make beautiful rides on the golden beaches.
Numerous artists live and work in and around the picturesque village who will welcome you in their galleries and studios and there are also plenty of nice and cozy eateries. Port Alfred even has its own brewery, so the thirst is quickly quenched after a day of sun, sea and beach!
This place could not be called super sporty if there was no golf and flying. So this is also thought of; play royal at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Course and you will be completely in your head if you go to the largest aviation school in South Africa.
The nearest game reserve is Shamwari Game Reserve, about a 20-minute drive away.
An area with a lot of water is rich in native vegetation and bird life, you can do a boat cruise, rent a canoe or go hiking to discover the beautiful nature.
