Gonubie

Gonubie located just above East London in the Eastern Cape province is a small picturesque coastal village. It is a place to relax and to leave the bustle of city life behind. With a wonderful climate with mild winters and warm summers with lots of sunshine, you can spend hours in this paradise on earth. The dunes and its vegetation are protected by the 500-meter-long wooden walkway leading to the tidal pool of the lagoon. At low tide, the lagoon is a perfect place to look for beautiful shells and you will be accompanied by numerous water birds.

The wooden footpath is also a wonderful vantage point for spotting dolphins and whales (seasonal) that swim past here and play on the powerful waves. Something that the surfers and kite surfers also like to use and is a spectacular sight!

The perfect swimming conditions and the beauty of the beaches have given Gonubie Beach a ‘Blue Flag’ status. If you see the place, you won’t be surprised.
Near the coast in beautiful nature on the banks of the Gonubie River you can see and hear the osprey and geese. Here along the rocks are beautiful places for a picnic, with a bit of luck you can even see the Dassies. And the wetlands are home to around 160 different species of birds.

Fishing, canoeing, bird watching, walking and hiking are the favorite activities in addition to surfing and kite surfing.
