Nutrition and Water

Is the water from the tap drinkable?

The tap water is generally drinkable everywhere in South Africa, unless stated otherwise. If you do not like the taste or still have doubts, you can buy bottles of mineral water almost everywhere.

What about the food?

You can buy all kinds of food in South Africa. From vegetarian to kosher, from European to Asian, from simple to very luxurious. In general you can eat well in South Africa. The Western Cape in particular is known for its excellent cuisine and many star restaurants (especially in Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Cape Town).

At restaurants and other eating and drinking places it is customary to tip 10% – 15% of the total amount, as the wait staff generally receives a very small salary.

If you need a special diet and you have booked an organized trip, please let us know in advance so that it can be taken into account.

Preferably do not buy things that are sold at the side of the road. Our western stomachs are often not able to withstand this. Wash fruit and vegetables carefully before eating.
