Selfdrive along the Wild Coast

After arrival at Port Elizabeth airport, you will pick up your rental car (category M, Europcar or similar) .Take the N2 towards Colchester and then the R72 to Kenton-on-Sea and finally Port Alfred.

You will stay here one night at the Royal St. Andrews Hotel.

This is where your journey along the ‘Wild Coast’ really begins! Today you will drive via East London to the Crawfords Beach Lodge, located in the town of Cintsa (or Chintsa) and will stay here for two.nights.

Cintsa is a true paradise with the beautiful lagoon, white beaches, forests and many birds. The beaches are quiet and since there are generally few waves, also child friendly.

Your next destination is approximately a 4-hour drive from Cintsa. Your lodge, the Swell Eco Lodge, is located ‘off the beaten track’ and you drive on a dirt road to get there. You do not need a 4×4 car, but please drive slowly / slowly to avoid problems. We also recommend that you arrive before sunset, so that you do not have to drive on this road in the dark (there is no lighting).

You can of course relax and recover from your trip here, but what about these activities: fishing, horse riding, kayaking, hiking, surfing (also lessons) and picnics? Or enjoy a wonderful massage. But you can also make nice trips! The famous Hole in the Wall, for example, is only a 1.5-hour drive from the lodge.

A long drive today. As there is no road along the coast, you first drive to Mthatha on the N2. Then via various villages on the R394 to Port Edward. This ride takes approximately 5 hours. An alternative route is over the R61. If you choose this route, you will be on the road for an hour longer because the road critters through the area and the road is not well maintained. Take this into account!

Port Edward is a small coastal town on the border of the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal (officially Kwazulu Natal). The Red Desert is nice to visit, because this small desert is so contrasted with the tropical vegetation around Port Edward.

After breakfast, leave Port Edward behind and drive along the coast to Durban. You return your rental car at Durban airport and your tour ends.
