Explore the nature of the Western and Eastern Cape (luxury)

You land at the airport of Cape Town and is met by a driver and brought to your accommodation. Especially when you arrive late in the evening, it is nice not to have to drive yourself immediately. The next morning your rental car will be (category M of Europcar, Ford EcoSport or similar), delivered to your accommodation. If you do want to take the rental car immediately from the airport, this is of course also possible.

In Cape Town there are endless possibilities for sights and activities. High on the list for many is a visit to Table Mountain and Robben island (advance booking required). But also think of a walk through the old city center where you will find the Company Gardens and Castle of Good Hope. The Cape Peninsula is also worth a visit and a nice day trip. A day trip could be: from Cape Town to the south via Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope. Up through Kommetjie, Noordhoek and the beautiful auto route Chapmans Peak Drive and further along the beaches of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Clifton.

An easy way to discover the sights in and around Cape Town is by using the Hop on hop off bus.

You stay for three nights in Queen Victoria Hotel in a deluxe room based on bed and breakfast. This 5-star accommodation is located on modern Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with many restaurants and shops.

You drive north to the village Langebaan on the west coast of South Africa (140 kilometers to your next accommodation). This place is on the clear blue Langebaan Lagoon, where you can see many birds including black herons, pelicans, flamingos and Cape Jan-van Gent. We recommend that you make a stop on the way at Bloubergstrand from where you can take beautiful photos of the iconic Table Mountain.

On the south side of the Langebaan lies the West Coast National Park, where you can admire beautiful wild flower fields in the African spring (August to early October).

The unspoilt nature and beautiful coastline ensure beautiful pictures.

On the west coast you can enjoy delicious fresh fish and lobster. A special place for lunch or dinner is Die Strandloper. Here you get fresh fish and other seafood that are served in a relaxed way on the beach. Reservations are necessary, we are happy to do this for you free of charge.

Time to travel further, about 175 kilometers away is your next destination: Franschhoek. This place is called the “Food & Wine Capital of the Cape” because you can find many leading wine farms and restaurants here. This is an excellent environment for a wine tasting or to indulge yourself culinary. Many restaurants require timely reservations, we are happy to do this for you free of charge!

Franschhoek has an interesting history in which the French Huguenots played an important role, you can learn more about this at the Huguenot Museum. Take a leisurely stroll through the old city center and treat yourself to coffee with a treat or a glass of wine for the real holiday feeling.

Two overnights in  Leeu House in a classic room based on bed and breakfast. This small-scale 5-star boutique hotel is located in the center of Franschhoek within walking distance of a number of excellent restaurants. Les Quartier Francais is next to the hotel, which is highly recommended for a top-quality dinner. We reserve the restaurant of your choice for free, timely booking in advance is necessary at many restaurants. Your stay includes a Mulineux and Leeu family wine tasting at Leeu Estate (2.5 km from your accommodation).

Time to search for the coast again, you drive to today Hermanus where you can spot whales from the quay between July and December. Today’s journey takes you, among other things, past the Theewaters nature reserve and takes about 1.5 hours (103 kilometers). No long drive so you can still spend time in Franschhoek this morning if you wish.

Especially in the whale season a boat trip with expert guides is recommended, for example choose our excursion whale watching by small bay boat. For those who dare, there is also the possibility for a shark cage dive excursion in this area: Shark cage diving in kleinbaai

Along the beaches of Hermanus is a cliff path where you can walk with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches, such as Grotto Beach, also invite for a walk.

You stay a stone’s throw from the ocean in the 5-star One Marine Drive Boutique Guesthouse on a bed and breakfast basis. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance.

Today a somewhat longer, but very beautiful, route to drive. You travel about 200 kilometers (2.5 hours) to your next accommodation in a game reserve. The route takes you through the interior and especially at the end you get a beautiful mountain pass to drive near the village of Montagu. This part of the route is the well-known Route 62 and is truly a beautiful part of South Africa.

Overnight stay in the 5-star Sanbona Wildlife Reserve at Gondwana lodge on full board basis and including safari activities (game drives, bush walk).

From Sanbona game reserve it is via Barrydale (make a stop at Ronnie’s ‘Sex’ Shop!), Ladismith and  Calitzdorp another 205 kilometer to the ‘Ostrich capital -of the world’: Oudtshoorn. Today you continue on Route 62 and through the Klein Karoo, you will see on the way that the landscape is becoming increasingly drier.

In Oudtshoorn there is much to do for tourists, visit an ostrich or crocodile farm, take a trip to the beautiful Cango Caves or venture to the spectacular unpaved Swartbergpass in the Swartberg Mountains (by car or mountain bike). You can also explore the rugged mountain pass with a guide so that you can fully enjoy the view. Because you stay here for two nights, you have plenty of time to make excursions and the visit places of interest at your leisure.

Two nights at Pictures Guesthouse based on bed and breakfast. The luxury guesthouse is situated  5 minutes drive from the centre.

Today you leave the dry Karoo and leave for the coastal town Knysna with its beautiful lagoon (122 kilometers). The waters of the Indian Ocean and the lagoon offer opportunities for a variety of activities for water sports enthusiasts and fishermen. In the Knysna Forest you can go for a nice walk and when it’s hot, the age-old trees provide a cooling shade

Overnight at the 5-star  Kanonkop House based on bed and breakfast and local drinks.

You drive via the beautiful and green Garden Route to a great nature area: Tsitsikamma National Park (part of the Garden Route National Park). Today you only have to drive 110 kilometers to your next destination, so you can make a stopover on the way, for example Plettenberg Bay.

Tsitsikamma is a nature reserve for lovers of walking / hiking or simply enjoying nature. Fun activities to do here are the Canopy Tour, Blackwater tubing or perhaps a jump of the 216 meter high Bloukransbrug with bungee jump elastic around your feet. From the visitor center in the park there are various walking routes to follow, including a short route over a long suspension bridge that is stretched over the mouth of the Storms River. The Tsitsikamma National Park offers lots of greenery, a rugged coastline, waterfalls and a wide variety of birds.

Two overnights at the The Fernery Lodge in a Premier Suite based on bed and breakfast. This beautiful 4-star accommodation is beautifully situated in the green nature of the Tsitsikamma park.

Today you drive from Knysna in about 2.5 hours (210 kilometers), via Uitenhage towards the town of Addo where your next accommodation is located. If you wish to visit the  Addo Elephant National Park today (you can book a game drive with your own car), then we advise you not to leave too late so that you have enough time to spend in the park.
