Easy selfdrive through the Western Cape (Luxury)

Today you arrive in  Cape Town at the airport where you can immediately receive your rental car. Uw huurauto is een category M Europcar, type Ford Ecosport or similar.

From the airport it is only a 25-minute drive to your accommodation nearby Stellenbosch.

Around Stellenbosch you can also find a number of nature reserves where you can walk.

You stay two nights at Wedgeview Country House & Spa based on bed and breakfast. This 5-star accommodation is located about 10 kilometers outside of Stellenbosch and is surrounded by vineyards. A beautiful and peaceful environment to start your journey.

Franschhoek.

This is also an excellent environment for a wine tasting or for culinary indulgence.

Franschhoek has an interesting history in which the French Huguenots played an important role, you can learn more about this at the Huguenot Museum.

Today you continue your journey to the fruit-producing region Robertson. You drive a beautiful route along the Theewaterskloof Dam and the Brandvlei nature reserve, day distance about 117 kilometers. Wine is also produced in this area, but it is also known for the production of dried fruit, olives, roses and the brandy popular in South Africa (visit the Klipdrift distillery).

You will spend the night with The Robertson Small Hotel based on bed and breakfast. This luxury 5-star hotel also features an excellent restaurant (book in advance), a modern bar and a spa where you can pamper yourself.

After a quiet and extensive breakfast, it’s time to leave the wine region behind you and head north. You are driving to Clanwilliam, located in the Olifants River Valley. From Clanwilliam it is easy to make a trip to the Cederberg Wilderness Area. Here you can walk, rock climb, photograph etc.

The next night you will stay in the beautiful Cederberg Ridge Mountain Lodge, based on bed, breakfast and dinner. At the lodge you can book various optional activities such as guided walks, mountain bike tours, an excursion to the petroglyphs and for example stargazing! You will not be bored here!

Today again a somewhat longer distance to drive. Via the R303, the village of Citrusdal and the N7, you will arrive at your next destination in approximately 3.5 hours (217 km). A stay  in Bushmanskloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat is a guarantee for total relaxation surrounded by the beauty of the African unspoilt nature. Check-in is possible from 2 pm today.

During walks and tours with expert guides you can admire more than 200 animal and bird species and more than 755 native species of fynbos. The reserve has no predators (except the timid leopard),the animals that you can see during a game drive include: zebras, hartebeests, bontebok, roebuck, African lynx and earth wolves. Between July and October, depending on the time of rainfall, the spring flowers give color to the fields.

In addition to the wonderful spa treatments (for your own account), you can also opt for a more active holiday and go hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, archery, fly fishing, croquet and mountain climbing.

You stay two nights in a luxury room and breakfast, light lunch (no lunch included on the day you arrive), afternoon tea, dinner and the above-mentioned activities are included.

After breakfast and possibly a morning activity, it is time to check out and travel further. You leave for the coast where you can optionally visit the village of Lamberts Bay, an important lobster processing center. You can also visit the Sandveld museum where you can learn more about the culture of this region. More than 150 different bird species live in huge numbers on the bird island off the coast (nose closed, because the birds stink properly!).

You drive along the coast to the final destination of today: Paternoster (day distance around 210 km). Paternoster is a picturesque traditional fishing village with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful coastline. It is a place where you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Here you can get a breath of fresh air on the 10-kilometer white sandy beach, take beautiful pictures of old weathered boats, hard-working fishermen and snow-white houses. Paternoster is the place to enjoy local specialties so go for fresh “seafood” and that is especially known for the lobster. The coast has a rich animal life and you can see whales, dolphins, See seals, penguins and many birds (± 250 species). Follow one of the hiking trails and look for rock formations with Khoisan rock paintings.

Tonight you overnight in the 5-star Abalone House & Spa based on bed and breakfast.

Today only a short drive of less than an hour to your next destination: Langebaan. Because you do not have to drive far, you have enough time to explore the beautiful nature around this coastal village today.

The West Coast National Park is on the south side of the village. The area has a rich history and is also famous because the “footstep of Eve”, the oldest human footprint, is found here. But the enchanting beauty of the coastline and the flora and fauna make it a place for the true nature lover!

Overnight in The Farmhouse Hotel

This morning you can once again enjoy the beautiful nature around Langebaan and then continue your journey back inland. After about 130 kilometers you will arrive in Tulbagh, beautifully situated in the “Deserted Valley”. A valley where the Khoi and Bushmen stayed for thousands of years until the Dutch and Huguenots settled here from 1658. The time of the settlers can still be found everywhere, especially in the beautifully restored Cape Holland houses and Edwardian and Victorian monuments in the village. Take a historic walk through the village and go back in time. More than 30 houses here fall under the protection of monuments and all in one street.

Overnight in Cape Dutch Quarters in a  Superior Suite based on bed and breakfast. This 4-star accommodation is located in the historic center and you can easily explore the village on foot or visit a restaurant.

The end of the journey is approaching, but you will not return to Europe without it Having explored Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. After a full breakfast, drive to your next accommodation on the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town.

Robben Island. In the evening you can eat in one of the many restaurants, both in the center, on the beach at Camps Bay or at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. We can advise you on good restaurants and can arrange your dinner reservation free of charge if desired.

Also recommended during your stay in Cape Town is a tour of the Cape Peninsula (Cape Peninsula). A day trip could be: from Cape Town to the south via Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach to Cape of GoodHope. Up via Kommetjie, Noordhoek and the beautiful autoroute Chapmans Peak Drive and further along the beaches of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Clifton.

You can enjoy beach walks on the west coast at Noordhoek and Kommetjie and horse riding is also extremely popular there.
