Easy selfdrive through the Western Cape (comfort)

You arrive today in Cape Town at the airport where you can immediately receive your rental car.

If you arrive late at the airport, you can also choose to book a transfer and have the car delivered the next day (price on request). Let your tour through a part of the Western Cape province begin!

From the airport it is only a half hour drive to your accommodation Stellenbosch. This cozy village has a rich history and beautiful houses in Cape Dutch style.

Stellenbosch is located in the middle of the Cape Winelands and in the summer you can see the grape bunches hanging here and the vineyards are green in color. If you have a bad weather day in the winter, there are also several museums to visit and of course you can taste delicious wines at one of the many estates. In every season, a visit to Uncle Samie’s shop and strolling through the historic city center of Stellenbosch is fun. You will see beautiful houses in Cape Holland style and the streets are lined with oak trees.There are cozy terraces and many different restaurants in the center.

Around Stellenbosch you can also find a number of nature reserves where you can walk. Visit for example the Jonkershoek nature reserve for a nice walk through the woods.

You stay at LovanE Boutique Wine Estate based on bed and breakfast. This 4-star hotel is located in the midst of the wine countries, so you can really relax after your trip. The center of Stellenbosch is only a 10-minute drive from the accommodation.

Time to travel further and go deeper into the wine countries. Your next destination is only 38 kilometers away: Franschhoek. This place is called the “Food & Wine Capital of the Cape” because you can find many prominent wine farms and restaurants here. This is also an excellent environment for a wine tasting or for culinary indulgence. Many restaurants require timely reservations, we are happy to do this for you free of charge!

Franschhoek has an interesting history in which the French Huguenots played an important role, you can learn more about this at the Huguenot Museum.

Two overnights in Plumwood Inn in a large standard room based on bed and breakfast. This luxurious and attractive 4-star guesthouse is located in the center of Franschhoek and has a beautiful garden with swimming pool.

Those who think of South Africa think of wild animals. And you can also see that in the Western Cape province. Today you will drive north along nature reserves to your destination Inverdoorn Game Reserve (approximately 160 kilometers). The entire Big Five lives in this reserve; lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, rhino. There is also a cheetah rehabilitation center that you can visit, not included in the price.

You can check in from 12:30 and a welcome drink and a delicious lunch will be waiting for you (no later than 14:00). After lunch you have the opportunity to relax in your room, by the pool or to explore the area.

At the end of the afternoon you will be taken by one of the guides in a large 4×4 Landrover for a game drive of approximately three hours. Upon your return you have time to freshen up before dinner is served.

Wake up early for a morning game drive. Especially in the winter months you must bring a warm jacket, it can be very cold in the early morning. If necessary, your ranger can bring a warm blanket for you. Early morning is the best time to spot wild animals and especially the “hunters” such as lions and cheetahs. We stop at the dam to look for hippos that often come out of the water to eat around this time. Upon your return there is a delicious breakfast waiting for you and then it is time to continue your journey.

On the way to your next destination, you will increasingly get the feeling that you are ‘in the middle of nowhere’. The total distance that you drive today is only 65 kilometers, most of the ride is via an unpaved road so take your speed into account. Your next destination is the Kagga Kamma nature reserve on the southern side of the Cederbergen. Here you can enjoy walking / hiking and view rock drawings from the bushmen along the way. Dassies, moose and zebras live in the area. Strange rock formations provide unique photos of this beautiful and unspoilt piece of nature.

You overnight at Kagga Kamma natuure reserve in a cave suite on a full-board basis and including two activities (choice of nature drive in the early morning or afternoon or a guided walk to the rock drawings).

Enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning, because you have a somewhat longer journey ahead of you. The fastest way to drive to your next accommodation is via the R303 and the village of Citrusdal and then the N7. You’ll spend the night just outside the village of Clanwilliam at a beautiful 4-star lodge.

The area around Clanwilliam is known for the production of rooibos tea, this is the only place where rooibos grow. You are still near the Cederbergen where you can go hiking or hiking, and there are also old rock drawings of the Bushmen here.

You overnight in  Saint du Barrys in a Garden Room based on bed and breakfast.

You leave for the coast where you can optionally visit the village of Lamberts Bay, an important lobster processing center. You can also visit the Sandveld museum where you can learn more about the culture of this region.

You drive along the coast to the final destination of today: Paternoster (day distance approximately 175 km). Paternoster is a picturesque traditional fishing village with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful coastline. It is a place where you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Here you can get a breath of fresh air on the 10-kilometer white sandy beach, take beautiful pictures of old weathered boats, hard-working fishermen and snow-white houses. Paternoster is the place to enjoy local specialties, so go for fresh “seafood” and the lobster is known for that. The coast has a rich animal life and you can spot whales, dolphins, seals, penguins and lots of birds (± 250 species) here. Follow one of the hiking trails and look for rock formations with Khoisan rock paintings.

You will spend the night tonight by the sea in the 4-star Dunes Boutique Guesthouse based on bed and breakfast.

The nature in the Langebaan lagoon is phenomenal, because of the tide in the lagoon you will find here numerous wading water birds. The lagoon, three kilometers wide and 30 kilometers long, has plenty of seagulls, but also flamingos and pelicans are happy to be guests. And it is seen as the largest breeding ground for black herons.

The  West Coast National Park is on the south side of the village. The area has a rich history and is also famous because the “footstep of Eve”, the oldest human footprint, is found here. But the enchanting beauty of the coastline and the flora and fauna make it a place for the true nature lover!

You overnight at  At the Rocks Guesthouse based on bed and breakfast. From this 4-star accommodation you can also take walks to the lagoon or the village.

The end of the journey is approaching, but you will not return to Europe without to explore Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula . Distance to your next accommodation is 125 kilometers. You can choose to take a small detour and visit Paarl. Or you can choose another longer route via Bloubergstrand, from this place north of Cape Town you can take beautiful pictures of Table Mountain with the Atlantic Ocean and the beach in the foreground. Cape Town is not for nothing known as one of the world’s most beloved cities. This special city, also called the “Mothercity”, with the impressive Table Mountain in the background is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city attracts many lovers of culture, theater and good food accompanied by good wine. In Cape Town there are many sights to see and excursions to book. Definitely worth a few days stay.

A visit to Table Mountain should of course not be missed during your visit to Cape Town, as well as a visit to Robben Island. In the evening you can eat well in one of the many restaurants, both in the center, on the beach at Camps Bay or at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Water sports enthusiasts are in their element in Muizenberg on the east side of the Cape Peninsula where the waters invite to surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing. You can enjoy beach walks on the west coast at Noordhoek and Kommetjie and horse riding is also extremely popular there.
