Beach and safari through the north of South Africa and Mozambique
This wonderful trip will introduce you to the ‘lesser known’ nature areas of Kosi Bay and Mkuze Game Reserve in South Africa, the small kingdom of eSwatini (Swaziland) and Mozambique! The adventure begins with the search for the Big Five in Mkuzi and Hluhluwe game reserve. Then to the coastal Kosi Bay nature reserve and an overnight stay at Hlane Game Reserve in eSwatini. In Mozambique you will find a mix of cultures and the coast in particular appeals to the imagination.

Day 1 – 3: Zululand Game Reserve (2x B, 3x L, 3x D)
Around 06:30 in the morning you will depart from Johannesburg to the heart of the province of KwaZulu Natal. Here you will spend the next three nights in the Mkuze Game Reseve. This reserve is the habitat of the endangered black rhino. Together with your guide you will search for wildlife in the reserve. You take a morning walk in the reserve, go on a game drive in the afternoon and you may see elephants or rhinos drinking in a water hole from a shelter. On the third day you visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, which also offers a good opportunity for spotting wild animals including the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard). You will also visit a local Zulu village where you can learn more about the traditions and customs of this people. Travel time day 1: 7 ½ hours, approx. 550 km.

Day 4 – 5 : Kosi Bay (2 x B, 2 x L, 2 x D )
Kosi Bay Nature Reserve has, among other things, river mouths, mangroves, dunes, forests and lakes, which you will discover on foot. In the season (November – January) the Leatherback turtles lay their eggs on the beach. During this period you can make an excursion in the evening, at your own expense, to see the turtles. During your stay in this beautiful nature reserve you will visit the mouth of Kosi Bay for snorkeling (mask and snorkel can be rented) and you can also see the local fishermen at work. This is an excellent place for a nice walk through the woods or along the beach and to relax. Travel time day 4: approx. 2.5 hours, 180 km).

Day 6: KingdomSwaziland (B, L, D)
Today you will leave for the small kingdom of eSwatini (formerly known as Swaziland). Passport ready, because you cross the border. You stay one night in the Hlane Game Reserve, Swaziland’s largest national park and the habitat of rhinos, among other things! There is a water hole at the accommodation where these beautiful and impressive animals regularly quench their thirst. Together with a local ranger you take a walk through the park, the guide will teach you more about following animal tracks (game tracking) and you will look for various bird species. Travel time: 6 hours, 350 km.

Today you travel further to Mozambique. Via the Namaacha border crossing you enter the country and travel towards Maputo, formerly called Lourenço Marques. Here Portuguese and African culture meet in a mix of delicious dishes and liveliness. Enjoy the freshly caught fish in a local restaurant (not included). Travel time: 1 ½ hour, 120 km.

Dag 8 – 10 Inhambane (3x B, 3x L, 2x D)
You drive north along the coast of the Indian Ocean through mango and cashew plantations to Inhambane. The Arab influences from the time when slaves, ivory, gold and spices were traded can still be found here. Discover this city and its 200-year-old cathedral before heading to your accommodation in Praia de Barra. Enjoy the beautiful beaches and the warm waters of the ocean. You can scuba dive, surf and sail with a dhow here (not included). Travel time day 8: 7 hours, 500 km.

Day 11: Bilene (B, L)
Today you drive south along the coast towards Bilene, located on the banks of the Uembje lagoon. The lagoon is eight kilometers wide and 27 km long with crystal clear water and white sandy beaches. The afternoon is free to spend, for example, kayaking or snorkeling (not included) or swimming in the shallow calm waters. In the evening you can go out for dinner at a restaurant overlooking the water. Travel time: 5 hours, 355 km.

Day 12 – 13 Kruger National Park (2x B, 2x L, 2x D)
The next two days are all about spotting the Big Five. In the world famous Kruger Park you will look for leopards, lions, elephants and other game. On day 12 you have a big ride in the truck ahead, but as soon as you enter the fences of the Kruger Park, the search for wild animals can begin. On day 13 you get up early to go on safari all day and in the evening you sleep in the private game lodge. You can also do a night drive with a ranger from the Kruger Park in an open 4×4 safari vehicle in search of the nocturnal animals (not included). Travel time day 12: 6 hours, 350 km.
Accommodation: 1 night Kruger National Park Chalets (chalet with private bathroom), 1 night Makuwa Safari Lodge (double room with en-suite bathroom)

Day 14 return trip Johannesburg (B)
You enjoy a final game drive before we return to Johannesburg. Your journey ends around 6 pm at the hotel (journey time: 6.5 hours, 450 km). You can also choose to be taken to Johannesburg airport around 5 p.m. You can then take your flight to the Netherlands or you can extend your journey if desired. Ask us about the possibilities.
