Oakdene Guesthouse Oudtshoorn
Sheltered under oak trees on the main tourist route, Oakdene Guest House is one of the oldest and finest examples of architecture from the early days in Oudtshoorn. The building was built in 1853 and was declared a National Monument in 1988.
Oakdene is near the town centre and within walking distance from shops and restaurants. Nearby Oudtshoorn attractions and activities include the Cango Caves, ostrich show farms, Wilgewandel Holiday Farm, Cango Wildlife Ranch, Meerkat adventures, the Swartberg Pass as well as the Swartberg Circle Route.

The history of Oakdene Guest House, Oudtshoorn
In 1847 the small Klein Karoo town known as ‘Veldskoen’ was renamed Oudtshoorn.
Six years later, Oakdene was built on the main road by Mr. J.H. Mulder, who later also built Oudtshoorn’s magnificent sandstone Moederkerk and the Pastorie. In Oakdene, Mulder’s style blended typical Cape vernacular with elements of traditional Victorian and Klein Karoo architecture.
