Umphakatsi cultural excursion in Eswatini
A visit to Eswatini is not complete without a visit to a traditional Swati village. Towards the border with the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary lies the Swati village of Umphakatsi that you can visit to learn more about the life of the Swati’s.
You will get a lot of explanation about the Swati culture and customs and also learn how utensils are made and what their siSwati name is. You will see how the women weave mats from which the characteristic Beehive huts are made.

With sufficient participation (min. 4 people), the cultural excursions depart at 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The guide will be waiting for you at Umphakatsi. The ladies get cloths in traditional Swati prints and colors that need to be tied around the waist.
You will get a lot of explanation about the Swati culture and customs and also learn how utensils are made and what their siSwati name is. You will see how the women weave mats from which the characteristic Beehive huts are made. Interaction is appreciated so you can try to grind grain / corn, weave baskets of grass and participate in song and dance.
In the village itself you will be asked to take off your shoes. The excursion takes around 2.5 hours.
