Snorkeling with sea lions in Cape Town
A fun and unique activity from Cape Town is snorkeling with sea lions. Just beyond Camps Bay, near Oudekraal lives a Cape Fur Seal colony where you can snorkel with the sea lions. You do not need a snorkeling experience for this trip; you must of course be able to swim. The tour lasts 2.5 hours in total of which you are 30 minutes in the water with the sea lions.
Snorkeling equipment is included, but bring your swimwear, a towel, cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. If you quickly become seasick, it is useful to take medication for seasickness.

This adventure starts at the V&A Waterfront. After you have had an informative briefing about the sea lions and the use of snorkeling equipment, you board a speedboat and sail to Oudekraal, just past Camps Bay. A Cape Fur Seal colony lives here. On the way to the sea lion colony you have the chance to spot dolphins and maybe even whales (July-November)! Once you arrive you put on your wet suit and jump into the water to snorkel for no less than 30 minutes with the sea lions. These animals are naturally very curious. So there’s a good chance they will come and see you! See how gracefully they can move. Don’t forget to bring your underwater camera!
The best time of year for this excursion is in the South African summer months (October to April).
