The journey begins in Johannesburg: you will be picked up from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. It is also possible to be picked up at a hotel in Pretoria. On the way to Kruger National Park! Along the way you will stop to stretch your legs before you go through the entrance gates in the south of the park.
Once you have entered the park, the game drive can begin. At one of the camps you will stop for lunch and in the afternoon the safari tour will continue to your overnight camp. At the end of the day many animals go to the water places and this is a good place for spotting wild animals. Crocodiles can also lie in the sun along the banks of the water places and with a bit of luck you will see hippos in the water.
By the time you arrive at the Skukuza Rest Camp (or similar), you will already have some idea of what you will experience in the coming days. After checking in, the gates of the park are closed for the night. You have the opportunity to freshen up in your chalet before enjoying a delicious dinner in the restaurant in the rest camp.
Up early! You will have to get up early to leave around 5.30 am on your game drive (exact start time depends on the time of year). Early in the morning you have the best chance of spotting as much wildlife as possible. In addition, the morning light is perfect for taking photos. Along the way you will stop for breakfast at a picnic area.
After breakfast the game drive continues and your guide will give you more information along the way about the animals and plants in the park. At the start of the afternoon you stop at your own rest camp for a break or you stop at another camp en route for lunch. You will probably see many zebras and wildebeests along the way as well as the giraffes and elephants. You will also see many birds, there are more than 500 species in the Kruger Park!
Later in the afternoon, when the weather gets a little cooler, the game drive continues. Enjoy the tranquility in the bush when you stop at a watering place to see which animals come to drink. Before the sun goes down, you will return to your camp. Dinner is again served in the restaurant of the rest camp.
You guessed it, getting up early again! Perhaps you are lucky and have heard your safari guide about a lion that has done a good catch and he will try to discover it. It is a special spectacle to see the lions ripping the flesh off the bones. You may also see a curious hyena trying to eat a portion or a jackal! Also enjoy the beautiful African sunrise.
Time for breakfast and then continue searching for game. You will return to your camp around lunch time and will have time to relax by the pool or take a nap. In the afternoon you will again make a game drive.
Your safari trip is coming to an end, you are returning to Johannesburg today. In the morning you make another game drive and we leave the Kruger Park via Phabeni or Numbi Gate.
