General information

A trip to South Africa is a fantastic experience and the famous Garden Route is an area not to be missed. You will come face to face with wildlife, stroll through indigenous forests along the coast and then rest and relax on the beach.

Via a beautiful route through the Outeniqua Mountains you reach the interior to settle down between the vineyards. The journey ends in metropolis Cape Town. You can choose between staying overnight in accommodations or camping. This trip is also possible in reverse.

We recommend that you arrive one day before the start of the tour and book your return flight one day after the tour ends. You can book these overnight stays with us before or after the trip. During this Adventure Truck trip you will stay in double rooms with private bathroom or you can opt for a combination of camping and overnight stays in accommodations.

This trip will visit the following provinces: Eastern Cape and Western Cape.

Travel Schedule:

Day 1: Addo Elephant National Park

In the morning you will meet your guide and fellow travelers and drive to your accommodation. In the afternoon your first game drive is on the program. You will visit the third largest national park in South Africa: the Addo Elephant National Park. Due to the unique vegetation in this park, many different animal species live here. You will be looking for game all afternoon.

Accommodation: Kudu Ridge, or equivalent (double permanent tent with private bathroom)
Camping: Kudu Ridge campground, or equivalent

Day 2: Tsitsikamma National Park

Early in the morning you will leave Addo for a short visit to the surfing mecca Jeffrey’s Bay. This town is known for its good surfing conditions and surfing competitions are regularly held here. From here you drive along the coast towards the Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma means ‘place of abundant water’ and the native forests and dramatic coastlines will not disappoint! (day distance ± 210 kilometers).

Day 3: Tsitsikamma National Park

Today you will explore the Tsitsikamma National Park on foot. Adventurers take part in the Waterfall Trail, an intensive but beautiful hike! This route meanders along the beautiful coastline and ends at the waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip. Would you rather take it easy? Then use the hiking trail to the mouth of the Storms River where you can take beautiful photos of the rugged coastline. Optionally, you can join the Treetop Canopy Tour in the afternoon where you can experience the park from the eyes of the many birds that live here. Another optional activity is the Woodcutters Journey.

Day 4: Garden Route

Today the opportunity to visit some beautiful places along the Garden Route and to do optional activities around Plettenberg Bay. Today the truck will drive a number of laps past the sights so that you can choose how long you want to stay somewhere before driving the truck to the next place. The day starts with a visit to Nature’s Valley where you can take a walk or relax on the beautiful beach. The day ends on the beaches at the Keurboom Lagoon, also a beautiful place.

Day 5: Oudtshoorn
Today you drive through the Outeniqua Mountains to Oudtshoorn, located on Route 62. Oudtshoorn has the most sunny days in South Africa and is known as the ostrich capital. You will visit the famous Cango Caves. Under supervision you enter the cave and get a tour.

Day 6: Route 62 – Hermanus
After breakfast you will drive on a scenic route through the Klein Karoo and the winelands. On the way you will occasionally see a ‘pad stable’ where, for example, fruits are sold. A stop at Ronnie’s Sex Shop in Barrydale cannot be missed. No sex items in this shop, but a bar to eat or drink. The inscription was officially ‘Ronnies shop’, but friends of owner Ronnie added ‘sex’ to it. Today, tourists from all over the world stop here to have a drink and take a photo. Then you drive to Hermanus for an overnight stay. Between July and November you can see whales here from the quay with a bit of luck.

Day 7: Cape Town
In the morning you take a walk on the boardwalk in Hermanus. During the season (July – November) you have the chance to spot whales here. Then to Stony Point Nature Reserve where you can see the largest colony of African penguins. A visit to Stellenbosch and a wine farm should not be missed. Here you can taste the best wines in combination with chocolate. The tour ends in the center of Cape Town at the end of the afternoon.
