Travelstory of Family Smolders

Dear zuid-afrika specialist,

Thank you very much for the unforgettable journey that you have put together for us. Two months on the road in South Africa and Namibia with our 4 and 2 year old sons made some demands on our journey (no malaria area, slow travel pace, good equipment), but it was the long one more than worth preparation! With the Toyota Hilux and folding trailer (Jurgens XT75 Off-road Trailer) we traveled from Johannesburg via Namibia to Cape Town in 2.5 weeks, where we exchanged the car and tent for a 6-person camper (Discoverer 6) to end up in 5, 5 week mainly going back to Johannesburg via the coast and Drakensberg.

As expected, adventurous Namibia became a major challenge due to the long travel days on gravel roads, a flat tire, camping in sandstorms and a scrap truck on a deserted mountain pass in extreme thunderstorms. But the great scenery, the expansiveness and capriciousness, the special animals that we saw at our tent and on the self-drive safaris, the nice people and nice campsites with a swimming pool made it all right. And Namibia was one big sandbox for the children, which they enjoyed immensely.

Discovering South Africa by camper was a lot more relaxed and less tiring; the travel pace was lower and the camper was very comfortable. We have made beautiful walks in the botanical gardens of Cape Town, at the Cape of Good Hope, Franschoek, Oudshoorn, Bontebok, Wilderness and in the Drakensberg. The beautiful rides through the enormously varied landscape was a great pleasure every time. The visit to the penguins on Boulders Beach, the Birds of Eden in Plettenberg Bay, the elephants of Addo, the fish of Sea World Durban, taming the waves of the Indian Ocean and the campgrounds with nice animals, beautiful playgrounds and trampolines our little males extra in the taste.
These beautiful travel memories will last a lifetime, so thanks again and maybe we’ll see you soon.

Kind regards, also from Vincent, Otto and Max,
Kris
