With your bus ticket you can use the two different routes through
Johannesburg:
– The Green City Tour
– The City Tour
You can get in and out at the various stops and view the sight there at your leisure. You decide when you will walk to the bus stop again to drive to the next attraction. At most stops the bus stops every half hour (see ‘time table’ below). You can choose a ticket that is valid for 1 day or 2 days and you can also make a guided trip to the township of Soweto. A wonderful way to explore Johannesburg. Entrance fees for attractions and museums en route are for your own account.
Green City Tour
This route starts in Rosebank at The Zone (stop 1 on the map) and runs through beautiful green areas of Johannesburg. The bus stops at Zoo Lake (stop 2) where you can walk or picnic in the park, Johannesburg Zoo (zoo, stop 3), Ditsong National Museum of Military History (stop 4) and Constitution Hill (stop5). With the latter you will learn more about the development of democracy and you can take a look at the life of a prisoner. Entrance fees for museums and the like are for your own account. From Constitution Hill you can take the City Tour bus.
City Tour:
The stops during the city tour are: Constitution Hill (stop 5), Mining District (stop 10) where you can stroll along the various sculptures on the street, visit restaurants and learn more about mining history. The next stop is the Carlton Center (stop 11), here you have a beautiful view from the top of the tallest building in Johannesburg. Further stops are the James Hall Museum of Transport (stop 12), Gold Reef City Theme Park and Casino Hotel (stop 13) with roller coasters, a ferris wheel and many more attractions (closed Monday and Tuesday).
A nice stop is also the SAB beer brewery where you can do a tour and / or beer tasting (stop 15). The Origins Center at Wits is particularly suitable for lovers of archeology, you will get more information about the origin of man (stop 16). The last stop before the bus drives back to Constitution Hill is The Grove (stop 17). Especially on Saturdays this is a bustling and hip place in the city. During the tour you will pass the famous Nelson Mandela bridge and other famous places and drive through the busy and pleasant streets of Johannesburg.
Soweto Tour
If desired, you can expand your bus ticket with the Soweto Tour, the largest township in Johannesburg. The buses with which this tour is conducted (with guide), depart from Gold Reef City Casino Hotel (stop number 13 of the City Tour). After the township tour you can continue your journey through Johannesburg from stop 13.
