On safari in two different game parks in one day: Addo Elephant National Park is a good place to admire the largest mammal on land, the elephant. The park is the habitat of a large population of elephants, but also lions, hyenas, buffalo, black rhinos, zebras and various types of antelopes feel at home here. There are also about 150 bird species and the endangered dung beetle in the park and there are 600 different species of plants to be found here. Addo Elephant Park started in 1931 with only 11 elephants and now the population has grown to a whopping 550 elephants.
As it can get very hot in the park, you will be driven around in a comfortable minibus with air conditioning. You only ride on the official trails during this safari, this makes it more difficult to see elephants after rainfall as the giants hide in the woods.
Schotia Game Reserve is the oldest private game viewing reserve in the Eastern Cape and offers the best opportunity to see lions in the wild. The trip starts in the afternoon because at the end of the day / evening you have the best chance of seeing lions. You can also find white rhinos, zebras, crocodiles, elephants, hippos, giraffes, crocodiles and many different types of antelopes. You will be driven here in an open 4WD vehicle and you will leave the beaten track to approach the wildlife up close.
Both game parks are malaria free.
Day program: Morning You will be picked up at your accommodation in Addo (between 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.) or in Port Elizabeth (9 a.m.) and taken to Addo Elephant National Park. During the ride through the park you will, among other things, look for the elephants. Your guide can tell you a lot about their lifestyle. After lunch you will leave for Schotia Private Game Reserve. If you do not make use of the transfer, you must arrive at Schotia’s head office at 10:00 a.m.
Afternoon
In the afternoon you make a game drive through the Schotia Park. Your ranger will look for giraffes, rhinos, zebras, ostriches and the many antelopes in the Schotia Park. After a short stop, the exciting part begins: the search for the lions! The ranger will also look at hippos and various nocturnal animals.
In the dark you will return to the open Lapa where the fire is burning and the drinks are already waiting for you. An extensive dinner buffet with delicious traditional South African dishes is served, followed by dessert, coffee and tea. After dinner (until 8:45 – 9:00 PM) you will be taken back to your accommodation in Addo or Port Elizabeth, the end of an unforgettable day. If you have driven to Schotia with your own transport, you will be taken back to your car.
