General information

Varied landscapes with beautiful coastlines, dense forests, open dry plains, impressive mountain passes, caves, wild animals and vineyards are some of the things that you will see and experience during this beautiful tour along the well-known Garden Route and perhaps equally well-known Route 62.

After an extensive introduction to the ‘Mother City’ Cape Town with its iconic Table Mountain, you can indulge in culinary delights in Franschhoek with its renowned wine farms and excellent restaurants. Stroll through the charming coastal town of Knysna, look for elephants and other wildlife at the Garden Route Game Lodge and Addo Elephant National Park and enjoy the beautiful sandy beach of Jeffrey’s Bay before returning via Route 62 to Cape Town.

This tour can be booked in three different categories: with accommodation in good 3-star accommodations (budget), in comfortable 4-star accommodations (comfort) and in luxury 5-star accommodations (luxury). Dagprogramma

Day 1-3: Cape Town -

Upon arrival at Cape Town airport you will be met by a driver and taken to your accommodation. Especially when you arrive late in the evening, it is nice not to have to drive yourself immediately. The following morning your rental car (category B of Europcar, Ford Fiesta or similar) will be delivered to your accommodation. If you do want to take the rental car immediately from the airport, this is of course also possible.

In Cape Town there are endless possibilities for sights and activities. High on the list for many is a visit to Table Mountain and Robben Island (advance booking required). But also think of a walk through the old city center where you will find the Companie Gardens and Castle of Good Hope. Or visit the modern Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with many restaurants and shops.

The Cape Peninsula is also worth a visit and a nice day trip. A day trip could be: from Cape Town to the south via Simon’s Town and Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope. Up through Kommetjie, Noordhoek and the beautiful auto route Chapmans Peak Drive and further along the beaches of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Clifton.

An easy way to discover the sights in and around Cape Town is by using the Hop on hop off bus.

Budget accommodations:

You will stay three nights in Maartens Guesthouse on a bed and breakfast basis. This accommodation is located near Lions Head, take a fun and adventurous hike to the top with the reward of a beautiful view! Or opt for a quieter walk on Signal Hill, a popular place to watch the sunset with a picnic basket.

Comfort accommodations:
The next three nights you will stay at The Walden House, based on bed and breakfast. This beautiful accommodation is centrally located, making it easy to visit all the highlights.

Luxury accommodations:

You stay three nights in the Queen Victoria Hotel, based on bed and breakfast. Queen Victoria Hotel has a beautiful location near the cozy V&A Waterfront. Here you can enjoy a drink and a snack on a terrace or go shopping.

Day 4-5: Cape Town - Franschhoek (81 km, approx. 1 hour and 7 min. drive) -

Day 6: Franschhoek - Albertinia (295 km, approx. 3 hours and 20 min. drive) -

A first safari experience! That’s what awaits you at your next destination. The Garden Route Game Lodge is located on the famous Garden Route Coast, with the impressive Langeberg Mountain Range in the background. This malaria-free safari park is about a 3.5-hour drive from Franschhoek and is the habitat of many species, including the ‘Big Five’ (leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino). You stay here one night based on bed, breakfast and dinner and during your stay here there is an after-afternoon and a morning safari included.

You can check in at 14:00. Of course you can also arrive earlier and have lunch (not included). From the restaurant you have a panoramic view of the reserve.

After you have checked in to your room, you can relax on your veranda or at the swimming pool or explore the lodge during a walk. The evening safari departs at 5 pm (4 pm in the winter months).

It can be cool during game drives, so we recommend that you also bring warm clothing. Along the way you will receive a warm blanket and / or poncho and a delicious hot water jug.

If you want to turn this game drive into a sundowner game drive, you can buy a drink and a snack in the shop and in this case your guide will find a nice spot in the park to watch the sunset.

At 7 p.m. you will return to the lodge and have a drink before heading to the restaurant for dinner. After dinner you can relax in the lounge or by a roaring fire.

If you book the budget or comfort version of this tour, you will stay in a Valley View Chalet. If you book the luxury version, you will stay in the Luxury Family Suite.

Day 7: Albertinia - Knysna (147 km, approx. 1hour and 40 min. drive) -

Day 8: Knysna - Tsitsikamma National Park (92 km, approx. 1 hour and 10 min. drive) -

You continue on the beautiful and green Garden Route to a fantastic nature area: Tsitsikamma National Park (part of the Garden Route National Park). Today you only have to drive 90 kilometers to your next destination, so you can make a stopover on the way, for example in Plettenberg Bay.

Tsitsikamma is a nature reserve for lovers of walking / hiking or simply enjoying nature. Fun activities to do here are the Canopy Tour, Blackwater tubing or perhaps a jump from the 216-meter high Bloukrans bridge with a bungee jump elastic around your feet. From the visitor center in the park there are various walking routes to follow, including a short route over a long suspension bridge that stretches over the mouth of the Storms River. The Tsitsikamma National Park offers lots of greenery, a rugged coastline, waterfalls and a wide variety of birds.

Budget accommodations:
You will stay at the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, in the middle of the Tsitsikamma National Park, on a bed and breakfast basis. This accommodation is ideally located at the start of various beautiful hiking trails!

Comfort accommodations:

You will stay at the Tsitsikamma Village Inn, based on bed and breakfast. This nice and cozy accommodation is located in the nearby village of Storms River. Unique is the historic dinner and the beer brewery!

Luxury accommodations:
Overnight at the beautiful Misty Mountain Reserve, based on bed and breakfast. This accommodation is located on the edge of the Tsitsikamma National Park and from here you can make beautiful walks through the park.

Day 9-10: Tsitsikamma National Park - Addo Elephant National Park (214 km, ca. 2 hours and 30 min. drive) -

On to your next safari destination: Addo Elephant National Park! This park is the third largest national park in South Africa and has since expanded to an area with major differences in biodiversity, landships, flora and fauna. In total, Addo Elephant National Park now covers around 180,000 hectares.

In 1931 there were only 16 elephants in this area. It was clear that the elephants needed protection and the national park was created. Today, the elephant section in this area offers a home to more than 550 elephants! But there are also lions, buffaloes, black rhinos, jackals, spotted hyenas, leopards, heart animals and many other animals. But there is definitely one very important animal that we should certainly not forget, namely the unique Addo dung beetle! This animal is almost exclusively found here and is very important for biodiversity. It is therefore very important, when driving through the park, to pay attention and to ensure that you do not accidentally run over these animals.

Budget accommodations:

You will spend the next two nights in the park, at the Addo Elephant Rest Camp, based on accommodation. You can drive through the park yourself and look for the wild animals or you can optionally make a guided game drive.

Comfort accommodations:
The coming days are all about game drives! During this “On safari to Addo Elephant National Park & Schotia Game Reserve” you will see both the elephants in the Addo Elephant National Park and the lions in the Schotia Game Reserve. You will spend the night in the Schotia Game Reserve, where you will experience a real “Out of Africa” feeling in the middle of the bush! During this trip the following game drives are included: 2x afternoon safari, 2x morning safari and 1x Addo Elephant National Park safari. You stay here on a full board basis.

Luxury accommodation:

You stay two nights in the Woodall Country House & Spa, based on bed and breakfast. This beautiful converted farmhouse is located near the Addo Elephant National Park.
