A visit to South Africa is of course one big adventure, this wonderful journey is no exception. Nature is characterized by wild animals, high mountains, green valleys, waterfalls, native forests and wetlands. During this small group journey you will be able to enjoy breathtaking landscapes time and time again.

 

With the minibus you travel through the Kruger Park, the Panorama Route, the formidable Drakensberg, the well-known Garden Route, the dry inlands and rolling wine countries. You also make a trip to the kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) and the mountainous and unspoilt Lesotho.

Day 1: Johannesburg
On arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met and transferred to the Safari Club. You have the remainder of the day at leisure. You can choose to relax from your trip or perhaps you want to make an excursion such as a visit to the apartheid museum with a guide, a tour of Johannesburg, a visit to the Lesedi Cultural Village or take a look at the township of Soweto with a guide.

At 6 pm there is an information evening at the Safari Club Hotel. Here you meet the rest of the group and it is imperative that you attend this meeting so as not to miss any important information regarding the trip. Lunch and dinner are for your own account.

Accommodation: Safari Club hotel (or similar), rooms with  en-suite bathrooms  based on bed and breakfast. Swimming pool, bar and restaurant present.

Day 2: Graskop (B)
After an early breakfast, we depart from Johannesburg and head east towards Mpumalanga.A landscape characterized by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. We spend the night in the town of Graskop, a small forestry town situated on the Drakensberg Escarpment at the start of the Panorama route and the gateway to the Kruger National Park (day distance approx. 385 km).  On the way there will be a stop for lunch and possibly some drinks and snacks to buy (own expense).

Day 3-4: Kruger National Park (2x B)
After breakfast, the journey continues via the Panorama Route to the Krugerpark. In clear weather you have beautiful views of the third largest canyon in the world: the Blyde River Canyon.The first stop today is atBourke’s Luck Potholesa spectacular rock formation formed by erosion.

In the Kruger Park you then look for the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo). During the game drives in the early morning and afternoon you will become acquainted with the African game. The game drives are executed with the van, but you can also opt for a safari with an open 4×4 safari vehicle (price on request). For these game drives at least two participants are needed and the departure time depends on the season (day distance on day three approx. 250 km).

Accommodation: Berg en Dal Camp (or similar) in bungalows based on bed and breakfast. Swimming pool and restaurant present.

Day 5-6: Eswatini/Swaziland (2x B, 1x L)
The kingdom of Eswatini (the new name for Swaziland), with King Mswati III as leader, is one of the three monarchies in Africa. The residents of Eswatini are proud of their traditional lifestyle and culture. You will visit the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary where besides the exuberant bird life you can also spot many other animals such as hippos, giraffes, zebras and various antelopes. Something you will probably like to see if you decide to take a guided walk in the not so hot afternoon.

In addition to hiking, there are also opportunities for horse riding, mountain biking or game drives.

The next day a visit will be made to a cultural village where you will become acquainted with the traditional customs of this exceptionally friendly people. Two nights in the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary (day distance day five approx. 190 km).

Accommodation: Milwane Rest Camp or Similar (over night in a traditional Beehive hut with en-suite bathroom, based on bed and breakfast. Restaurant present.)

Day 7-8: Zululand (2x B)
In Eswatini you stop en route in the morning to visit a market where you can buy some souvenirs and support the locals. Then you return to South Africa and travel through the province Kwazulu Natal to the iSimagaliso Wetlands park, Then you return to South Africa and travel through the province St. Lucia more to take a closer look at aquatic animals such as hippos and crocodiles. The next day you go on an ‘expedition’ in the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, a fantastic Big Five game reserve. Here too the game drive is executed with the van, keep your eyes open for the white and black rhino!

Accommodation: Ezulwini Lodge (or similar) in rooms with en-suite bathroom based on bed and breakfast. Swimming pool, bar and dining room.

Day 9-10 : Drakensberg (2x B, 1xL, 2x D)
Today you drive further inland to the Drakensberg. You will spend the night at The Cavern, an accommodation located in a 3000-hectare private area adjacent to the Royal Natal National Park that is part of the uKhalamba Drakensberg Park. The main attraction in this part of the Drakensberg is the Amphitheater, a rock wall of five kilometers long that is 1200 meters high at its highest point. Also the Mont-Aux-Sources Peak where the Orange and Tugela River originate and the beautiful Tugela Waterfall are particularly spectacular wonders of nature. You will also find age-old rock paintings in this area. Under the guidance of a guide you can take beautiful walks in this breathtaking environment! (day distance day nine approx. 540 km)

Accommodation: The Cavern (or similar), rooms with en-suite bathroom based on bed, breakfast and dinner and on day 10 also lunch. Swimming pool, bar and restaurant.

Day 11-12: Lesotho (2x B, 1x L)
Today you cross the border to Lesotho. After a long day you will arrive at the Malealea Lodge located in the west of this Kingdom. This remote part of Lesotho is breathtakingly beautiful. Lesotho is rich in natural beauty, flora, fauna and cultural heritage.

You get the chance to get acquainted with the daily life of the Basotho people, their customs and traditions. A trip with a Basotho pony should not be missed during a visit to this country. The pony is the best means of transport to explore this mountainous area. 

Day 13: Cradock (B)
This morning you leave the beauty of Lesotho behind you and cross the border back to South Africa. Today’s journey takes you to the historic village of Cradock in the Karoo. In this village (founded in 1814), where agriculture is the most important way of life, you will experience traditional Karoo hospitality. This place is blessed with a number of beautiful historic houses and located close to natural sulfur springs (day distance approx. 415 km).

Accommodation: ‘Die Tuishuise’ (or similar) rooms en-suite, based on bed and breakfast. Bar and restaurant present.

Day 14: Addo Elephant National Park (B)
Addo Elephant National Park is the place par excellence to see the largest mammal on land, the elephant. The park has a large population of elephants and other mammals such as: lions, hyenas, buffalo, black rhinos, zebras and various types of antelopes. You will also find around 150 bird species, as well as 600 different species of plants. Together with your guide you make a game drive with the van in the afternoon in search of these animals. The evening can you spend wonderful time at the illuminated water place where you can see nocturnal animals coming to drink (day distance approx. 300 km).

Here too you can optionally create a sundowner game drive with an open safari vehicle. Advance booking required and at least two people, departure time depending on the season. Prices on request.

Day 15-16: Tsitsikamma  (2x B)
After breakfast you leave for the coast and the beautiful nature of the Garden Route. In this adventurous and unspoilt nature you will stay in the Tsitsikamma National Park (part of the Garden Route N.P.). Here you can walk along the rocky coast with its Fynbos vegetation. For the true adventurers among you there is the opportunity to optional one bungy jump

from 216 meters from the Bloukrans bridge (day distance on day 15 approx. 240 km).

Accommodation: Tsitsikamma Village Inn or similar in rooms with en-suite bathroom based on bed and breakfast. Swimming pool and restaurant present.

Day 17: Knysna to Oudtshoorn (B)
After visiting ‘The Heads’ in Knysna, a town nestled on a tranquil lagoon, we will enjoy an interactive and educational oyster tasting experience. We continue our journey, travelling over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Little Karoo arriving in the town of Oudtshoorn. We take a trip to the famous Cango Caves, with their impressive ancient stalagmites and stalactites before overnighting in the ostrich capital of the world. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to partake in an interactive interpretative nature walk, focusing on biodiversity, adaptation, the importance of organisms, interdependence and the need for conservation.

Day 18-19: Cape Town (2x B)
Fortunately, you don’t have to drive yourself, because today you go to Stellenbosch taste delicious wines. Then you will discover metropolis Cape Town and environment with many highlights: Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak Drive, Hout Bay, beautiful beaches and Table mountain. The afternoon is at your leisure and you can visit the V&A Waterfront for shopping or to grab a drink.

Accommodation: The Townhouse Hotel (or similar) in rooms with en-suite bathroom, based on bed and breakfast. Restaurant present.

Day 20: Cape Town (B)
This morning, depending on the weather, you can go up to Table Mountain and enjoy the overwhelming view (optional excursion and for your own account). You have the afternoon free for any last purchases or to relax on the beach. Your vacation in South Africa ends at 6 p.m. at Cape Town airport.
