Enjoy nature: Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve

A short drive takes you to the boat where your guide, his camp assistant and the chef greet you. The boat sails over the Thamalakane River and enters the Okavango Delta through the town of Maun. This boat trip takes about three to four hours, enough time to get to know each other better and to get some information about the Delta. You may already see wild animals or beautiful birds during this transfer over the water. You sail to your first camping spot: Xaxaba Island.

When you arrive at the camp late in the afternoon / early evening, the safari tents with stretchers are ready for you! There are also sinks and a ‘bucket shower’ with hot water in the en-suite canvas bathroom. In the camp the local poles are already prepared for your arrival, in the coming days they will take boat trips with mokoros (canoes) through this water-rich area together with you and the guide. The poles move the canoes with a long stick almost silently through the water and through the reeds. As a passenger, you only have to do one thing: enjoy!

As soon as the birds start whistling and the sun rises, it’s time to get up. After breakfast and a cup of coffee or tea, the polers take you with the mokoros to Chief’s Island, part of the Moremi Game Reserve. On this island you will make a bush walk this morning. The local guides take you around three to four hours on a walking safari on this island. Afterwards you return to the camp by mokoro where you can shower with the bucket shower that has been made warm for you. A delicious brunch / lunch will be waiting for you around 12:00. In the afternoon you can relax, perhaps take an afternoon nap, read a book or enjoy all the birds in the camp.

At 3 p.m. it is time for a ‘high tea’ followed by a leisurely trip by mokoro through the water system of the Delta with all its rivers. Before the sun goes down, you will return to the camp so that you can enjoy the African sunset with a sundowner in your hand. With the other travelers and your guide you can sit around the campfire until dinner is ready. Again a delicious meal under the starry sky.

Today, the day looks similar to yesterday, although of course you never know which wildlife you will encounter today! Wake up early, breakfast with coffee and tea and then by mokoro to Chief’s Island for a bush walk. Showering on return to the camp, brunch / lunch and then time to take it easy.

When you return to the camp, the fire burns and your meal is prepared. Tonight your last night in the Okavango Delta, perhaps there will be a thunderstorm and you can see impressive flashes of lightning in the sky.

After breakfast you will depart by boat for a three to four hour boat trip to your next destination. You arrive in Maun where you will once again have the opportunity to do some shopping. At a local restaurant you can go for brunch / lunch and then you will leave for the Moremi Game Reserve by safari vehicle.

You use the southern entrance gate to Moremi Game Reserve: Maqwee Gate. You drive through the reserve to your BOGA (Botswana Guides Association) campsite at Xinii. Only local guides are added to these camping sites, which means that you will experience an authentic and more private camping experience here than anywhere else. The camp will be prepared and afterwards you will take a sunset drive to Xinii Lagoon. Here at the lagoon you can spot wild animals and enjoy the beautiful sunset. In the meantime the camp has been romantically lit with a campfire and torches and a delicious three-course dinner has been prepared for you.

After breakfast early in the morning you will leave for a game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve. This reserve is 4000 square kilometers in size and you will find the entire Big Five. An excellent place for a safari! The landscape in this park is very diverse, from a wet area in the west where Moremi borders the Okavango Delta and the rest of the reserve which is much drier with Acacia forests and grassland. The game drive will take about three to four hours and then you will return to the camp for a refreshing shower and nutritious lunch.

Today you spend the entire day on safari in the reserve, so don’t forget to protect yourself well against the sun. You leave after breakfast and the safari vehicle has a cool box with a freshly packed lunch and drinks. Halfway through the morning you will stop for another cup of coffee and rusks to dip into your hot drink.

Also on the last day you have to get up early for coffee and breakfast. Then it’s time to repack your things and leave Moremi behind. During the ride to the exit of the park you can still spot wild animals and then you drive back to Maun (+/- 2 hours). You will be taken to the airport where you can buy some souvenirs. For a fee, you can also opt for a flight from Moremi to Maun instead of the road transfer. From Maun you can continue your journey (ask us about the possibilities) or you can start your return journey to the Netherlands.

During this trip you spend the night in double canvas dome tents. Each tent has two stretchers with a mattress and bedding. There are solar powered lamps and each tent has a canvas en-suite bathroom with a ‘bucket shower’ and eco bush toilet. In the evening a cozy campfire is lit and there are comfortable chairs and tables. You do not have to help yourself with dismantling and dismantling the camp. Meals are prepared by the chef. There are no buildings in this camp, everything is kept as environmentally friendly as possible. All tents are set up and erected for you. The tour guide during this trip speaks English.

You are advised to bring clothing in natural colors, preferably not red, yellow, white, black and (clear) blue. Sturdy (walking) shoes are recommended for bush walks. Of course, sun protection (hat, cap, sunscreen) should not be missing in your bag. Finally, also provide warm clothing in connection with a cold morning / evening (especially in the winter). During the boat trip to your camp in the Okavango Delta, warm clothing is also recommended due to the wind during this boat trip.

If the water level in the Delta is very low, you can opt for game drives instead of safaris per mokoro.
