Adventurous 4×4 ‘tag along’ trip through the Kruger Park, Eswatini and Lesotho

If your flight arrives early in the morning, you can immediately pick up your 4×4 vehicle and then meet the guide at the agreed place. It is also possible to stay overnight in Johannesburg at the start of this trip at for example Outlook OR Tambo Lodge. Ask us about the options and prices.

When everyone has been informed about the 4×4 vehicles at the rental company, you meet the guide and the journey begins. You leave for the Dinokeng Game Reserve, which is located north of Pretoria. This is a somewhat smaller reserve, but the entire Big Five has been reintroduced here. So you might just see elephants while you drive to the accommodation or hear a lion roar in the evening! Tonight dinner will be prepared by the guide and you can get to know the rest of the group during dinner.

After breakfast at the accommodation it’s time to leave. The guide takes the lead and leads you through small local roads towards the Kruger Park.

Once arrived at the world famous Kruger National Park, the search for animals can begin while you drive to the camp. At the campsite it is time to store the roof tents for the next two nights. The evening is spent pleasantly around the campfire.

Getting up early in the bush! You can drink a cup of coffee to wake up before sunrise and then it’s time for a game drive with an open 4×4 safari vehicle. Especially in the winter months it can be cold early in the morning, so bring warm clothing. A local ranger will do his utmost to find members of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo), but he will also be happy to tell you more about tracking, birds and the flora in the park. After a few hours you will return to the camp for a well-earned brunch.

After breakfast, after searching for wild animals, you follow the guide towards the exit of the Kruger Park. Small roads lead you through the Barberton area to a beautiful mountain pass that brings you to the border of the kingdom of eSwatini. This small African country was formerly called Swaziland and is a very popular destination for travelers who love peace and nature.

You cross the border and stop en route for a picnic by the side of the road. When you arrive at the property for the night, you can first explore the area before dinner is served at the lodge. You can use the hiking / hiking trails (there are routes with and without a guide), rent a mountain bike, view rock art, take a boat trip on the Maguga dam or take a look at a traditional Swazi village. All these activities depart from the lodge. Your guide can give you more information about the excursions and prices.

This afternoon you can drive through the Ithala Game Reserve with your own vehicle and search for wild animals and birds. You can find white and black rhinos, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras and many antelopes here. However, lions do not occur in this reserve.

You will spend the night in the roof tents again tonight.

An absolutely exciting day today! You drive through the beautiful rolling Midlands to the village of Himeville. Here the real 4×4 adventure starts. Via the famous Sani Pass you drive with the guide in front to the kingdom of Lesotho. This small country is completely surrounded by South Africa and because of its high location it is often called ‘Kingdom in the Sky’.

Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sani Pass with your own 4×4, overnight stay at Sani Top Lodge.

After breakfast it’s time to continue exploring Lesotho. The guide will guide you through this deserted piece of land, luckily you are not alone! You drive north through the fantastic landscape of Lesotho to the next (simple) lodge for the night. Here you will arrive in the afternoon and there is still time to explore the area on foot. In the evening you dine together one last evening (for your own account) and toast on an adventurous journey!
