Kasane

Kasane is a small town in the extreme north-east of Botswana, it is located near the border with Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia (Caprivi Strip). It is a popular base for visitors to the Chobe National Park which is very close as well as for travelers traveling further to the Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta. There are banks, supermarkets, souvenir shops, campsites and lodges.

Kasane is located on the Chobe River, a beautiful wide river where many boat safaris are held that are absolutely worth it. If you do this in the early morning or late afternoon, you will also see a beautiful sunrise or sunset. During the boat safari you can see elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and various antelopes.

If you drive 10 km to the east, you will come to the small village of Kazungula, where the Chobe and Zambezi River come together and you can cross over to Zambia with a pound.
For those who not only use Kasane as a place to stay, but also spend a day or a few days here, there are a number of ideas for small outings. Take a look at the Baobab that is behind the police station, part of the tree is hollow and it is said that it used to be used as a ‘police cell’. In Kazungula, visit the Snake Park with 17 different species of snakes including the deadly Black Mamba and Boomslang or go to the Crocodile Farm where you can see crocodiles up close and learn more about these dangerous river dwellers.

There are a number of local tour operators and lodges that offer day excursions to the Victoria Falls and safaris in the Chobe National Park, as well as boat trips.

To relax during your tour through Africa, visit Kasane Hotsprings, a natural spa of warm, salt-rich water that is well-known among the locals for its healing properties. A beautiful place for a picnic and to spot special birds is Kasane Rapids just outside the village.
