Royal Natal N.P. (Drakensberg)

The scenic beauty of the Royal Natal National Park makes the park the number 1 travel destination in the Drakensberg. The 8000 ha park is characterized by different geological formations and different climate zones. More than 900 plant species grow here. 230 species of birds are at home here, including the lamb and Cape vulture and the mighty rock eagle. In this park you will also find bow ties, baboons, reed and blesbok, divers and klipspringers.

The Royal Natal National Park is a 3 ½ hour drive south of Johannesburg. With the characteristic amphitheater it is one of the most beautiful landscapes that belong to the Natal Drakensberg and Kwazulu-Natal. The awe-inspiring amphitheater consists of a 6 km wide crescent-shaped basalt wall, rising to a height of 1500 m. With its many creeks, fast-flowing rivers, waterfalls, small game and many different birds, the area is ideal for walks.

Note: There are few options for shopping in the park, so we recommend that you do this before you enter the park.
