Blackwater Tubing Tsitsikamma
A day of water fun in one of the most beautiful nature reserves in South Africa: Tubing in the Storms River in the Tsitsikamma National park. This water adventure lets you get to know this green pearl on the Garden Route while paddling and drifting downstream. A spectacular setting of high rock walls and green forests that you can enjoy downstream in your tube. The speed depends on the water level, and you will occasionally have to walk a little when the water is too low. Float with your tube, swim, slide down rapids and jump off rocks (for those who dare). Including use of wetsuit, help, life jacket, guidance of expert guides and a bbq lunch to conclude.
This gorge is known for the spectacular environment of high rock walls, ferns and native forests. Also keeps ears and eyes open for the many birds in this area. Enjoy these hours on the water in a beautiful setting, jump up to 8 meters high rocks (optional), swim in small lakes, drift down by the river and when the water is a little higher, you can bump at the rapids finished!

You are expected at 8 a.m. to meet your guides and receive an instruction. You can quietly drink a cup of coffee or tea while listening to the safety instructions and the program. You have the opportunity to ask questions and then it’s time to adjust / put on the wet suits, life jackets and helmets.
It is time to leave at 8.30 a.m. You drive about 15 minutes through the Plaatbos nature reserve before you arrive at the drop off point. Here you get your tube and then it’s about a 10 minute walk to the place where you go into the river. These 10 minutes are a steep descent into the Storms River Gorge, the gorge of the Storms River.
At the river the guide gives you a few final instructions and it is checked whether everyone has fastened the safety vest etc, safety first!
At 9 AM you go into the river with your tube and the journey can really start. From this point to the end point at (the bridge over the old Storms River Pass), a distance of about 3.5 kilometers and normally this trip takes about 3 hours. You will be picked up and returned here at 1 p.m. Time to put on dry clothing and socialize with your group mates at the Tube ‘n Ax Backpackers Lodge where the braai (typical South African bbq) is already lit. Enjoy a tasty South African lunch at 14:00 hrs, with meat from the braai of course not to be missed (other options for vegetarians also possible). Drinks can be purchased at the bar, these are for your own account. The excursion ends after lunch (around 3 p.m.). You can buy a CD with photos after lunch, these photos were made by the guides on the way (costs: 50 Rand). If you do not have time to participate in the lunch because of a lack of time, you can receive a packed lunch after the activity, inform your guide in the morning during the introduction.
This excursion requires good physical health because of the steep descent to the river at the start of the excursion and at the end a ‘climb’ to get out of the gap again.
Take the following for this excursion: swimwear, shoes that can get wet (shoes with laces), towel, dry clothing, sunscreen and a cap / hat.
