SAN Parks Camping in Punda Maria Rest Camp – Kruger National Park
The Kruger Park is world famous. With an area of almost 20,000 km2, it is the largest game reserve in South Africa. It is for the most part located in Limpopo, the northernmost region of South Africa. A park where the treasures of South Africa in the form of archaeological finds, Bushmen rock paintings and animals and plants continue to surprise you every day.
The Punda Maria rest camp is located in the Sandveld region in the north of the Kruger Park. This environment is also described as the botanical garden of the Kruger National Park. There are trees and plants that are unique and can only be found here in this area. Wild animals that are often spotted here are the impala, the sable antelope, the moose, zebra, buffalo and the elephant. In addition, this fantastic piece of nature is a true bird paradise! Also spotted are the Nyala, the grysbok, wild dogs and the crowned guineafowl, but you have to look for that!
Camping in in Punda Maria rest camp
There are 50 tent or caravan places available. Places with and without electricity and braai sites and suitable for a maximum of 6 people per pitch.
There are shared laundry / shower and cooking facilities. There is 24 hours hot water, electric hobs and washing up facilities.
–Bush walks with a guide, you go out for a few hours with a trained and armed ranger, the group will not be larger than 8 people. They will read the traces of Elephants, rhino and lion and tell you about the fascinating nature of South Africa. Think of comfortable shoes, comfortable clothing and don’t forget your camera and binoculars! Walks are not permitted for children under 13 years of age. You must book this activity in advance.
–Game drives, choice of sunset, night and morning game drives. For these game drives, it makes sense to book it in advance to avoid disappointment on the spot. On request (at least 2 months in advance and upon availability) you can book a “Day drive”. You then rent a car and driver and you can then visit those places in the park where no tourists come.
–Bush Breakfast or Bush braai including the game drive (ride of max. 1 hour) to the place of the Bush meal. Meals in a beautiful place by an open fire in the middle of nature are a great experience (Meal is between 90 minutes and 2 hours). Ask for availability during your booking.
–Paradise Flycatcher camp hike
–Thulamela Archaeological walk (50 km outside the camp) This walk gives a glimpse into history and is related to Zimbabwean culture. You must book this excursion in advance to avoid disappointment.

–Nyalaland wilderness Trail trip, Beautiful trip along large concentrations of baobab trees, beautiful native plants and large game, which is mainly to be seen during the wetter periods. You can see some of the Zimbabwean stone culture, fossil prints of Dinosaurs and San rock drawings. Excursion with overnight stay that you have to book in advance.

Take the N1 to Polokwane (Pietersburg). At Makhado (louis Trichard) you change to the R524 and follow this route for about 140 km. You will then arrive at the Punda Maria gate. Take 5 to 6 hours for this trip to the entrance. Punda Maria Rest Camp is 10 km from the entrance and it will be a 20-minute drive from gate to camp, if you do not dwell too much on the possibly already spotting wildlife!

–You will become acquainted with a number of special and unusual creations of nature which can be dangerous if you know nothing about it! Think of bats, spiders, snakes, scorpions, and malaria.
–If you have to walk in the dark never do that without a flashlight!
–Think warmer clothing during game drives, and this applies to all seasons!
–Please do not feed wild animals, this leads to their death and it makes them aggressive!
