Your senses will work overtime when you walk into the impressive Blyde River Canyon, come face to face with the animal world of South Africa, the grass tickles your legs and the warmth is felt on your skin. You walk in places where wars were once fought and you look for a cool dip in clear mountain streams. You will receive a brief briefing about your tour on the day of departure. You must hand over your vouchers and be able to show your proof of insurance (travel insurance is mandatory during this tour). This is also the ideal time to ask your guide about the tour.

Day 1-2: Mpumalanga, Panorama Route (1xB, 2xL, 2xD)
The journey starts at 6:30 am with a brief instruction on the content of your journey before you leave Johannesburg for the Panorama Route in the province of Mpumalanga. In the afternoon you will visit the lookout point at God’s Window and the historic mining village of Pilgrim’s Rest. You can stretch your legs during a short 2-3 km walk at the Mac Mac Pools. Travel time day 1: 6.5 hours, 420 km.

The next day, get up early for your first longer walking tour, and explore the Blyde River Canyon on foot. A fascinating walk through a beautiful nature reserve. This walk through the kl takes about 3.5 hours and gives you a beautiful view of the Three Rondavels and the Blyde river. In the afternoon you can further explore the forests and waterfalls for which the province of Mpumalanga is known. Optionally you can go down with a glass lift in the Graskop Gorge and walk in the woods there.

Day 3-4:  Private game reserve, Krugerpark (2xB, 2xL, 2xD)
Today you will go into the world famous Kruger National Park in search of the Big Five (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo and lion). From the truck you have a good view and the search for animals will not get bored. Enjoy small and large game and the variety of birds. At lunchtime, people stop for a picnic and then the game drive continues. At the end of the afternoon you leave the park to your accommodation in the Greater Kruger Park.

The next morning you make a game walk led by a ranger. You quietly make your way through the bush in search of wild animals. The expert ranger will tell you more about the flora and fauna in the area and following tracks. This Big Five game walk takes around 3-4 hours. Afterwards you can relax at the lodge and take a dip in the swimming pool.

Day 5 – 6: Kingdom Eswatini (2xB, 2xL, 2xD)
In the morning you take another 2-3 hour game drive while you drive to the southern gate of the Kruger Park. Then across the border to the kingdom of eSwatini (formerly called Swaziland). On the way to the mountains you drive through an area with many fruit orchards. You will end today at the Malalotja Nature Reserve where you will spend the coming days. On day six you will explore this unspoilt area on foot. A challenging walk through the beautiful hills of about 4-6 hours. The end of this hike is at a refreshing waterfall. Travel time day 5: 3 hours, 200 km (excluding game drive through the Kruger Park of 2-3 hours).

Day 7 – 8: Zululand Game Reserve (2x B, 2x L, 2x D)
You will return to South Africa and drive to the lodge on a private game reserve in the Kwazulu Natal province. In the afternoon, a local guide takes you on a quiet 2-3 hour walk through the reserve to look for the shy nyala antelope. The guide will also tell you more about the variety of birds in this area.

The next day you visit the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, a reserve that has played an important role, and still plays, in preserving the endangered rhino. During the morning game drive you will hopefully spot some of the Big Five members again. In the afternoon you will visit a traditional Zulu village to find out more about the Zulu’s way of life. Travel time day 7: 6 hours, 400 km.

Accommodation: Zululand Lodge, or similar (permanent  tent with own bathroom)

Day 9 – 10: Battlefields (2x B, 2x L)
Today you will drive through the green hills and valleys of Zululand to the small village of Dundee. Various battles have taken place here between the Zulu, British and Boers. On day nine you will visit the interesting Tulana museum before you arrive at the lodge. In the afternoon you have time to relax. The next morning you will visit the Islandlwana Battlefields before a challenging 4-5 hour hike begins. The tour takes you through the hills and along the Buffalo river (depending on the water level of the river). Then visit Rorkes Drift before returning to the lodge. These days dinner is at your own expense at a local restaurant. Travel time day 9: 5 hours, 350 km.

Day 11 – 12: Drakensberg (2x B, 2x L, 2x D)
Experience the greatness of the Drakensberg also called Ukhahlamba (“Barrier of Spears”) Mountains. You spend the night at the foot of this mountain at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level. Today you will walk a large part of the day and swim on a warm day in the crystal clear streams. There are many walking and hiking routes in the Drakensberg from which you can make a choice. The lodge where you stay is located in the Royal Natal National Park that is part of the northern Drakensberg. Here you will find the impressive Amphitheater and this is a fantastic place to enjoy the view and recover after a walk (journey time: 2.5 hours, 180 km).

Day 13 Drakensberg, Amfitheater (B, L)
Today starts with an early breakfast before heading on to Witsieshoek at the foot of the beautiful Sentinel Peak. Here starts a spicy walk of about 5-6 hours, including a part with ‘ladders’ made of chains. You move to the top of the breathtaking Amphitheater where the Tugela waterfall falls down (top of the amphitheater is 3000 meters above sea level). Here you have a magnificent view of KwaZulu-Natal. After the hike you can relax in the lodge with a view of the Mont-aux-Sources mountain range (travel time: 2 hours, 150 km).

Day 14 Johannesburg (B, L)
If you wish, you can take an early morning walk through the mountains before heading back to Johannesburg. You may see the beautiful large bearded vulture still fly by! Your journey ends in Johannesburg around 5 pm (journey time: 5 hours, 360 km).

You will be brought to the airport for your return journey or you can extend your journey, ask us about the possibilities.
