Day safari to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park

General information

Just an hour’s drive from St. Lucia, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is located on the former hunting grounds of the famous Zulu King Shaka. The park is the habitat of the entire Big Five (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard), but also giraffes, kudus, blue wildebeest, cheetahs, hyenas, antelopes and along the river you will find hippos and crocodiles. With 340 different bird species, birdwatchers are also not short of anything.

The nature in the park is very beautiful and diverse, from hilly and green to bare and flat, hence the large variety of birds and large and small game. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi is known for its efforts to protect the white rhino from extinction and with success! The park currently has the largest population in the world.

Day program -

The game reserve is a combination of the rugged mountains and grasslands of Hluhluwe and the more open savannah in the south known as the Imfolozi area. This means a diversity of large and small game and a day enjoying pure African natural beauty.

During this day trip you will be picked up at your guesthouse in St. Lucia and taken to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park where you will look for the Big Five and the many other wild animals. Among the 340 different bird species are a number of special species such as the white-backed vulture, the batelier, the snake eagle, wasp thief and egret. You will be accompanied by an expert guide who can tell you everything about the flora and fauna during the safari.

When booking you make a choice from a traditional safari or an elite safari. The traditional safari includes a breakfast in the park and a picnic lunch with drinks in the midst of the African nature. The exclusive elite safari also includes breakfast, a picnic lunch in nature and drinks but you travel in a smaller group where you are guaranteed a seat on the ‘window’ side of the safari vehicle (maximum 6 people). In addition, there is a pair of binoculars that you can use to spot as many animals as possible. Snacks are also included. In the summer months you leave at 4 am and in the winter months at 5 am. Around 2 p.m. in the summer and around 3 p.m. in the winter you will be brought back to your accommodation in St. Lucia.
